Actually $ 40 is one of the lower prices. It’s normally $ 60 for a year, and lower than that when it’s on sale. I’ve never seen it go below $ 35-40 though so you got a good price.

In the long run getting a 12 month card in the store for 59.99 (atleast where I live in Canada) is cheaper.
Usually the 12 month plan for xbox live gold would cost are $ 72. But, if ur xbox is still new u will get 1 month of free xbox live gold. From there when ur gold is over, u pay $ 1 for each month of gold with credit card. So instead of paying $ 72 for 1 year of live i only pay $ 12.
